It’s essential to have a car to reach Cooperhouse and make the most of your stay in Orkney, so you can either take your own, or arrive by some other means and hire a car once on Mainland, Orkney. 

Ferry

Ferry services operate from Scrabster, Gills Bay and John O’Groats in Caithness, and from Aberdeen.  There are also ferries to and from the Shetland Islands.

Flying

You can fly via a Scottish airport: Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow with Loganair.  Alternatively you can fly to these airports from the south of Britain and then hire a car, exploring Scotland on the way up to Caithness, before catching a ferry to Orkney.

Train

Another route is to travel by train to Inverness and then hire a car there.
